Dr. Lindquist lives with her husband and raised her sons in Laguna Beach, California. Yes, she is happily married but remembers, marriage can be very hard work sometimes. She believes it is good to be happy and working through the tough times gives us a chance to look at ourselves, grow as individuals and reconnect around our strengths and the things we love about each other. Living through challenges can lead to the best and happiest part of your life.
About this book Dr. Lindquist says, “I still remember the mysterious way people said, ‘Boy is your life going to change!’ when we said we had a new baby. Some said it with awe, some with dread, some with a laugh. I wanted to delve into that mystery, magic, laughter, and the normal frustrations. Soon I wanted to share what I discovered. I am excited to publish the revised, updated version as an audiobook because sometimes, young parents have more time to listen than to read."
Couples Therapy
About couples therapy, Dr. Lindquist says, “Couples benefit in therapy when we create a peaceful, safe haven for all members of the family. As a rule, I am pro marriage and do not advise clients to get a divorce. Most of my couples work on saving their marriage. Sometimes, however, couples choose to come to therapy to work on establishing good divorces for themselves and their children. I try to do the best I can for their children using my experience in mediation. I also work with individuals in high conflict relationships who wish to decide whether to work on a relationship or seek a separation. In addition, I work with both males and females who have anger problems. Although I usually work as sole therapist on, if the case warrants, I work with a co-therapist so that each individual has their own therapist.”
Due to her teaching and additional training, she is thoroughly familiar with several models for working with couples. In working with couples, she uses the principles of Emotion Focused Therapy the most successful and well-researched treatment for marital therapy.
Her couples work matches the developmental needs of the relationship using theory of Bader and Pearson. She integrates the information from the research of John Gottman and Howard Markman as well.
